Hand removal of oil tanks can be a good option in certain situations. When a tank is removed by hand, we do not use an excavator, only shovels and other hand tools. Even though using an excavator is the most common method, there can be a few reasons when it is not possible or ideal. Below are 3 of the most common reasons to remove a tank by hand.

  • Close proximity to utility lines. An oil tank may be too close to utility (gas, water, sewer or electric) lines. Regulations require excavators to main certain distances from utility lines. It can also be very dangerous to use heavy equipment in close proximity to these pipes.
  • Sensitive landscaping- Even using ground protection excavators can disturb surrounding landscaping. In most cases the damage is minimal. If the tank is under sensitive landscape design hand removal can minimize damage
  • No Access- Some oil tanks are located behind retaining walls, terraced areas or steep inclines. In these cases an excavator simply can not access the area

Whatever the reason may be, hand removal of oil tanks is the best solution.
